Flourish is a globally resonant film about disaster - not a focus on loss, but on reimagining a future possible.

In a multi-crisis era, it is a call to action: to find purpose, challenge systems that fail us, and create a roadmap to truly flourish.

After filmmaker Danielle McAlpine Johnson spent four years working in disaster recovery, she was fed up with hearing the same complaint on loop: “The system doesn’t work.”

But what if it could?

From the fire-ravaged hills and flood-prone communities of Australia, Danielle takes us on a journey connecting with professors, visionaries, philanthropists, scientists, a whistleblower, a prepper, Indigenous leaders, grassroots activists, and community members.

Through moments of heartbreak and hope, the film examines how communities can transform trauma into purpose and how the systems built to protect us often stand in the way of recovery.

FLOURISH reveals the untold story of what it truly takes to rebuild - not just homes, but hearts and systems. It exposes the cracks in the machinery of disaster response while spotlighting those courageous enough to imagine something better.

At its core, FLOURISH is a rallying cry for humanity’s capacity to evolve - asking viewers to confront the uncomfortable truth that real recovery isn’t about returning to “normal,” but about having the courage to reimagine something new!

Social Impact

FLOURISH has always been more than a film - it is a call to action. With a generational opportunity to reshape Australia’s approach to disaster resilience, the project seeks to centre community leadership, equity and lived experience in how we prepare for, respond to, and recover from crises.

The Social Impact Campaign activates the film as a strategic tool for mobilisation at many levels - community engagement and action, policy change, education and knowledge sharing, and both national and international dialogue.

The Flourish Roadshow will be announced in July with the film available in cinemas across the national from September 2026. Flourish will also be accessible on VOD internationally plus community online viewing events... with more news coming soon!
